Cryptolaemus (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri), the mealybug destroyer, is a native Australian ladybird beetle. Adults and larvae both feed on mealybug, and the larvae look enough like mealybug themselves to be mistaken for the pest.

What it controls

Citrus mealybug, obscure mealybug, citrophilus mealybug, black scale, pulvinaria scale and cottony cushion scale.

Options

  • Larvae — 50
  • Larvae — 200
  • Adult beetles — 100

Release rates

  • Protected crops: 1–5 beetles per 10m²
  • Orchards and field crops: minimum 1,000 beetles per hectare
  • Hotspots: 10–50 larvae/m²

Larvae go directly onto foliage near the infestation. Adults should be tapped out of their container onto the foliage. Beetle bags and sleeve cages help establishment and are sold separately.

Storage

In extreme heat or heavy rain they can be held for a couple of days in a dark room at 10–18°C. Tubes of larvae should be stored on their side.

Ordered fresh for you

We don't keep live insects sitting on a shelf. When you place an order we bring them in from the insectary, then repack and dispatch them the same day they reach us, with cool packs. Allow around a week door to door, and release them as soon as they arrive.
