Green lacewings (Mallada signatus) are generalist predators. It is the larval stage that does the feeding, working over the foliage and taking almost any soft-bodied pest it can catch.

What it controls

Aphids, caterpillars, mealybugs and scale insects, plus moth eggs, psyllids and lace bugs.

Options

  • 500 eggs — the standard pack.
  • 2,000 eggs — for larger areas.
  • Garden Pack — 500 lacewing eggs, 6 release boxes and 2 yellow sticky traps. Everything needed in one box, and the easiest place to start.
  • Release box — hardware only, no insects included.
  • 100 adults — subject to availability.

Release rates

  • Outdoor crops: 400–600 adults per hectare, 1–3 releases two weeks apart
  • Hotspots: 10–50 larvae/m², every 1–2 weeks as needed

Larvae can be sprinkled straight onto foliage where the pests are, or placed inside a lacewing release box, which shelters them until they are ready to go hunting.

Storage

Release adult lacewings as soon as possible after delivery. If necessary they can be held in the dark for up to three days at 10–18°C. Hold eggs until the larvae emerge.

Ordered fresh for you

We don't keep live insects sitting on a shelf. When you place an order we bring them in from the insectary, then repack and dispatch them the same day they reach us, with cool packs. Allow around a week door to door, and release them as soon as they arrive.
