The spotted ladybird (Harmonia conformis) is a native Australian predatory beetle, supplied by Bugs for Bugs for biological control programs. Adults and larvae both feed on soft-bodied pests.

What it controls

Aphids and psyllids.

Options

  • Adults — pack of 30 beetles. Ready to go to work straight away.
  • Eggs — pack of 150 or more. Cheaper per insect, but you wait for them to hatch.

Releasing them

One pack per 20–50m² in an enclosed space such as a greenhouse or grow room. In orchards or field crops, around 20 packs per hectare.

Adults are best released using beetle bags, which are sold separately. Eggs usually hatch in transit or shortly after arrival — release them once you can see the tiny black larvae.

Storage

Release adults as soon as possible after they arrive. If you have to hold them, keep them somewhere dark at around 17°C, for a few days at most.

Ordered fresh for you

We don't keep live insects sitting on a shelf. When you place an order we bring them in from the insectary, then repack and dispatch them the same day they reach us, with cool packs. Allow around a week door to door, and release them as soon as they arrive.
